One Fine Weekend

Last weekend was the greatest. Friday night we hung out with Millers and the Spencers, ate pizza and talked until we couldn't keep our eyes open any longer which may or may not have been around 11pm.

Saturday we woke up bright and early to attend Anna Grace's soccer game. I showed up in my shorts and t-shirt and the wind was blowing 90 mph and it was raining. Luckily Brittany is supermom and much more prepared than me with blankets, sweaters and chairs. Every time AG kicked the ball she would run to the sidelines and shout "MOM! I kicked the ball!" We were very proud. Here she is in action. Look for the white sweater and purple bow…or just look for the child "flying" around the field right past the soccer ball.

The rest of the day we went to the Four Seasons spa for a little R&R. Around Valentine's I had stumbled upon a Travelzoo deal for massages so we bought them but weren't able to redeem them until this weekend. I'm sure what happens at the spa is supposed to stay at the spa, but this one lady was just asking for it. You can't hop up and down in the hot tub butt-naked for half an hour and expect me not to tell anyone about it. She had the decency to face the wall…at first. It all went downhill when she started spinning in circles. I believe and hope she was exercising.

Our massages weren't until 7pm but you're allowed to come whenever you want to take advantage of the facilities so we laid out at the pool for about 5 hours before our treatment. It was the perfect day because the weather was partly cloudy but still warm so we were able to lay out all day without having to worry about moving to the shade. We ordered food poolside, read, slept and for the first time ever, I did this:

This always reminds of me of the scene from One Fine Day when Rita (Holland Taylor) is at the spa and has cucumbers over her eyes. I'm pretty sure I've wanted to try it ever since I saw that movie (1996). I looked up the benefits and supposedly cucumbers alleviate puffiness and dark circles from under your eyes. Other sources say that isn't really true and that cucumbers are just cool and soothing. I enjoyed them until they weren't cool anymore and then all of sudden they were just uncomfortable.

And yesterday, in honor of my dad's birthday, we welcomed the newest member to the Watten family:

After much deliberation it was decided that we (my dad) couldn't live without another yorkie in our lives. On Sunday my dad was having a serious face-to-face conversation with Selma and it was about that point that my mom decided they weren't going to make it much longer without getting another puppy. We chose one that looks different from Boo because we weren't looking to replace him but hopefully having this new puppy around will help alleviate the pain of missing Boo (my mom still puts her plate on the ground after dinner expecting Boo to lick her plate). Patti and Selma are going to love their new friend!

Marching and April-ing

Here's a rundown of what's been going on with us.

Several weeks ago I made the trip to Houston with some college pals to celebrate Studio L's (Lauren's) birthday. We stayed up until 4am Friday and Saturday nights talking, hanging out and celebrating. I haven't stayed up that late in a long, LONG time. How lame am I? We talked about marriage, pregnancy (not me!), adoption (also not me!) and reminisced the good 'ole days. How our conversations have changed since college. We used to guess who would date who next and now we're guessing who's going to be pregnant next (not me)! We went to lunch Sunday and ran out of gas on our way back to the house but we were content to talk and laugh more while Lance came to our rescue. Wish I had a picture.

The next week we went to the Mavs game for Granny's birthday. Ella decided to do a little dance for us on the railing. I took video of it on my phone but I must have accidentally deleted it. Thanks to Cari, here's a picture:

The next weekend we celebrated my cousin's 30th birthday. We went to the Prairie House on Friday night for dinner and my cousins made an unbelievable s'mores cake that looked like it came from a bakery.

After dinner we went camping at Lake Ray Roberts. I'm going to tell you right now, I am not the camping type. I sort of loathe it. It might have something to do with the fact that I like being clean or maybe it's just that I hate snakes. I wish I was cool and liked it but I'm just being honest here. The closest I have come to camping was in college when we spent one night in a tent in the woods about half an hour from our dorm room. We brought all our pillows and blankets and made a pallet tall enough for a king...

(circa 2004?)

So why did we even decide to go this time? Well the campsite was only an hour from our house so I figured if worse came to worse we could pack up and drive home at any time (lame, I know). We arrived at our campsite Friday night around 10pm and realized we were the only ones sleeping in a tent. Everyone else had brought campers, which is cheating. The campsite did have indoor bathrooms but you had to walk through the woods to get there so of course I made Preston go with me because I was not about to go alone. About halfway up the path we ran into a snake and I flipped a lid. I am a total wuss when it comes to snakes but they are literally Satan so I feel justified in that. Preston's first mistake was walking away from me to get the snake out of the path. That did not go over well (I cried. Fine I was already crying but I cried harder.) so he came back and we just turned around and went back to our tent. I told Preston I hated camping and wanted to go home. Instead, I just knocked on my grandparents' RV door and asked to use their restroom. I'm a cheater.

After the reptile encounter, the rest of the trip was actually enjoyable. It rained briefly that night and I love sleeping to the sound of rain so that was a plus. In the morning Stacy, my cousin's wife, had brought ingredients to make omelets. We scrambled our eggs inside a plastic bag, threw in what we wanted (cheese, bacon, tomatoes, ham, chives...she thought of everything) and then put our plastic bags in a pot of boiling water over a campfire for about 5 minutes and breakfast was served! It was pretty awesome. We had other obligations so we couldn't stay the whole day but I actually want to do it again sometime...with a camper.

The NEXT weekend (I'm blogging a whole month here...sorry) I went to Austin to plan a shower for the best man from our wedding and his fiance. I blogged about the shower on EBSR here.

The NEXT weekend, my cousin Kendra had a "birthday party" which ended up being a surprise bridal luncheon for her bridesmaids! We dressed up all pretty and ate homemade biscuits and tea and then headed to Nordstrom to try on our bridesmaids dresses. It was such a neat way to tell us we were her bridesmaids! Luckily, she took pictures...

The bride, bridesmaids and flower girl!

Our sweet poem telling us we are bridesmaids.

And then we sang Happy Birthday to Kendra because it really was her birthday.

You'll have to wait for the wedding for the bridesmaid dresses reveal.

And finally, we spent Easter weekend at the new home of my brother-in-law and sister-in-law outside of College Station. There were six adults, three kids and five dogs in one house. I felt like I was in a scene from the movie The Christmas Story when all five dogs were running after each other through the house (you know, the scene where the dogs steal the Christmas turkey?). There were two big dogs, our puppies and my nephew's new puppy, Rosie...

She's a chiweenie. She reminded me of Brody and she was just about the cutest thing you have ever seen and super snuggly. She bossed our pups around and they let her. P & S aren't very confrontational. Poor Selma has never encountered a dog smaller than she. Here they are playing together the night we arrived.

And here's Rosie sleeping in Preston's armpit the next day.

That night she crawling into my shirt and slept there for about an hour. I didn't take a picture because that's awkward but I wasn't about the move her.

On Saturday, the girls (minus my niece) went to Round Top. We parked in the middle of Warrenton this time so we could make it further down than we had last time. We saw this:

And I bought this:

And this:

I am going to make an R display in my entryway one day. It is my goal for the year 2012.

And when we were parched and exhausted at the end of the day I sought the same lemonade snow cone I had the last time we were in Round Top. It's snow cone ice with lemonade poured on top and is the ultimate refresher after being in the sun all day.

Then we stopped by Royer's for a slice of pie. I chose Buttermilk Delight: buttermilk pie with pecans, chocolate chips and coconut. It was delightful. On our way out of town we dropped by Rachel Ashwell's The Prairie to check out the property via my mom's suggestion. Rachel Ashwell is the founder/creator of Shabby Chic and has a store in Santa Monica, New York, London and Round Top, Texas! We arrived after the store had already closed but walked the property where she has a bed and breakfast and wedding venue.

On Easter Sunday we went to church, ate lunch and then had the egg hunt for the kids. This might have been the first time I have ever had the pleasure of hiding eggs since most years I am participating in the hunt. Preston and I were responsible for hiding eggs in the pasture. The grass was so high, all we had to do was drop the eggs and they were hidden so after strategically placing about five eggs I just starting tossing them as far as I could throw.  We took a photo after church with the pasture in the background...though the grass doesn't look so high from this pic.

My sister-in-law's grandmother sent us home with fresh eggs from her farm which I thought was the coolest thing ever though I'm kind of afraid a chick is going to pop out of one of the eggs when I try to make an omelet one day. That can't happen right?

Selma wanted to sit on Patti the whole ride home.

And both wanted to help dad drive.

Monday night we went to the Ranger's game to watch Yu pitch and we bought the $26 extra long hot dog for all five of us to share and the Rangers hit a million (6) home runs and we won!

And Tuesday I went to dinner with college friends to celebrate their birthdays at Enos in the Bishop Arts District. The food was good but the dessert we ordered (Eno's Sundae Sack) was fabulous.

I'll try to get my act together and actually post more than once this month. Here's to two posts in April!
