5 Year Anniversary

Preston and I have been married for 5 years today to the exact day (we were married on a Monday). I remember thinking it wasn't that rare to get married on a Monday but after having coordinating weddings for the past three years, I beg to differ.

June 25, 2007- Our Wedding Day- Austin, Texas

June 25, 2008- 1st Anniversary- Lubbock, Texas

June 25, 2009- 2nd Anniversary- Dallas, Texas

 June 25, 2010- 3rd Anniversary- Galveston, Texas
(We actually weren't together on our anniversary this year because Preston was at a bachelor party for a good friend but we celebrated in Galveston with the Rampy Family.)

June 24, 2011- 4th Anniversary- Seaside, Florida
(We celebrated on the eve of our anniversary since we were flying home on the 25th)

June 25, 2012- 5th Anniversary- Dallas/Austin, Texas
Since today is our anniversary I don't have a picture yet but on the left is us at The Oasis circa 2005 (the semester we met) and on the right is us at The Oasis two weeks ago.

Until this year we have celebrated our anniversary in a different city ever year. We sort of celebrated in two cities this year. We vacationed in Austin for a week to celebrate (more on that trip to come) but are in Dallas on our actual anniversary.

Happy Anniversary Preston! Words can't even express how happy (and blessed and grateful and honored) I am to be married to you.

Weather's Wedding and Memorial Day

The best man in our wedding, Jerrod, married his sweet wife, Jamie, in Austin several weekends ago and Jamie did such a great job on all the details! Everything was beautiful and so well thought out!

The rehearsal was at ZTejas in downtown Austin. If you're visiting Austin, either location is great and their brunch is one of my favs!

Malena and Preston

The ceremony was at Preston's (and Jerrod's) home church, Westover Hills.

The reception was at The Allan House in downtown Austin.

The dessert table with cake and individual pies.

The Chester: the groom's drink (and nickname).

How much do you love these drinks stirrers?!

THE Mr. and Mrs. Jerrod Weathers!
Love those chandeliers!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Weathers!

And below are the only two pictures I have of Memorial Day thanks to Auntie Diane! We celebrated just like the good 'ole days with our childhood friends and families and had such a great day. I made Nutella ice cream (I saw Nutella popsicles on Pinterest but I didn't have a popsicle maker so I use the same recipe to make ice cream instead), we swam, we held a bean bag toss tournament and Aaron was my partner and we were awesome but didn't win. Apparently my mom is a bean bag tossing pro. Who knew?

My mom and Ranger, Brittany and Adalyn, Annie and Selma, Me and Patti

Patti and Selma staked their claim on the towels in the shade.

The Lost Videos

My iPhone likes to do this cool new thing where it records a video and then the video all of a sudden reappears when I sync it to my computer. So here are several videos you have totally missed out on...

We were eating lunch at the Purple Cow when we discovered Preston's magical abilities...

When we went to the Mavs game for my Granny's birthday in March, Ella put on a show for us...

When I was in New York, we walked by a group of girls dancing in the park. It was choreographed but wasn't a flash mob. Two teenage boys who were sitting nearby decided to make it a flash mob...

And the puppies REALLY like to go on walks...

Kitchen Remodel

So when I got home from New York, Preston had turned this...

Into this!

And I LOVED it! So the next weekend, we worked on the wall behind the sink.

 Before
(actually during...we had already taken off the outlet plates when I realized we needed a before picture)

Chiseling away. I helped too and was very proud of myself. HGTV here we come!

Almost there...

After

There are two switches next to our kitchen sink: one is for the disposal and one is for the light switch and these switches are switched. The light switch is for the light above the sink and is closer to the sink and we always mistake it for the disposal switch so we have stopped using that light because it is too much of a risk to hit the wrong switch and have a minor heart attack when the disposal turns on instead of the light. And then a light bulb went off (in my head, not above my sink) and I made these:

And although they are crooked (perhaps the electrician who installed these needs to find a new calling) at least those of us that can read will not become victim to the switched switches.

Once we started working on the kitchen we were on a roll so I decided to paint the inside of our pantry door with chalkboard paint. Originally I had hung a frame on the outside of the door to act as a marker board for my shopping list but we broke the glass trying to put it back in the frame so then I turned it into a peg board but it fell down in the middle of the night one night so I nixed the frame idea and gravitated toward the idea of a chalkboard instead: won't fall, can't break and if I hated it I could just paint right back over it. But I did not hate it.

Once I got the can of chalkboard paint out I couldn't put it away. I painted a chips box inside our pantry...

And an R for my entryway (to the right of the big metal R)...

Which brings me to our next project. I had wanted to decorate the entryway wall since we moved in and knew I wanted some sort of gallery but wasn't inspired to make it an 'R' wall until I saw this post on Jones Design Company. I used a couple of her tutorials to make my own R's and already owned the rest. The big silver metal R in the middle was one of my purchases from Round Top this year along with the smaller silver metal R on the left. The black iron R at the top right is from Hobby Lobby and I made the chalkboard R by painting a metal picture I already owned with chalkboard paint and writing the R in chalk.

Then I thought it was probably time to take my berry wreath down from Christmas so I made this moss R for our front door using this tutorial...

And when you open our front door now, this is what you see! Rrrrrrrr....

And Patti was so exhausted from all the hard work she fell asleep sitting up...

It was a lot of work but it feels good to actually complete a project rather than just pinning it on Pinterest!

New York Day 3

On Day 3 we headed to my new favorite area of New York for a food tour at Chelsea Market in the Meatpacking district. It is my new favorite area of NY not only because Chase Crawford lives there but also because it is so stinking adorable. Chelsea Market is an old Nabisco factory turned food market that also houses the headquarters for the Food Network and other offices you may recognize (Google being one of them). It's hard to explain in writing but I highly recommend visiting (and doing the food tour) on your next trip to NYC. On our tour we were given a brief history of the building and visited several shops along the way to sample the foods they had to offer.

 The outside of the building.

Even this map of all the shops in the market is adorable. We tasted Amy’s Bread, Eleni’s cupcakes, Ronny Brook chocolate milk, Lobster Place chowder, Buon Italian, Chelsea Market Baskets snacks, Sarabeth’s Bakery biscuits and “spreadable Fruit”, Australian Tucks and Macelleria which was a butcher shop!

With our tour guide and a 29-year-old lobster...older than me!

Watching the chef make sushi at the Lobster Place.

Sarabeth's biscuits and spreadable fruit = DELICIOUS. I took some home and it was gone in a week. Annie bring me more!

Inside there was a waterfall that changed colors....

See?
We are holding cups of soup from Lobster Place. I had the lobster bisque. SO good.

A wall of recycled water bottles at Morimoto, the restaurant owned by Food Network "Iron Chef" Masaharu Morimoto.

At Macelleria tasting pasta in the wine cellar which dates back to the Civil War!

After walking through Chelsea Market we were guided to the Highline which is an old above ground railroad tracks turned park. I mean who was the smarty pants who decided to turn railroad tracks into a park? (They told us who, but I forgot). Definitely worth seeing on your next trip to NYC!

As if we hadn't had enough food already, we continued our OWN food tour, trying out the famous People’s Pops which I had been dying to try all weekend and just happened to have a shop inside Chelsea Market. Annie and I got ginger flavored something or another and Robin got Strawberry Rhubarb. They were yummy.

And of course we had to stop by the original Magnolia Bakery on Bleeker Street for a whoopie cookie and their delicious banana pudding. I don't think we were ever not eating on this day.

Then we ventured to the Upper West side for tea time at Alice’s Tea Cup where I bought a delicious pumpkin scone. They were too crowded to seat us so we took our tea and scones to-go and headed to Levain Bakery for softball sizes cookies which we ate in Central Park’s Strawberry Fields.

That night we went to Annie's church for mass before heading down to Union Square for Fuerza Bruta, the weirdest show I've ever seen. For about the first half of the show we were all wondering what in the world we had gotten ourselves into. It was completely insane. The audience stands the entire show and it is interactive so the sets move around the floor and as the sets move, ushers move the audience. The entire show is set to music, no words, and in the beginning there is a man running on a treadmill and stage hands are throwing things at him and he continues to run and then he gets shot but continues to run and then all the actors start dancing and running around with confetti filled styrofoam blocks crushing them on random audience members heads and a huge clear tarp comes down from overhead and it rains on the tarp and girls slide and dance on the tarp and they lower it down so the audience can touch the tarp and at the end they raise the tarp and all of sudden it starts raining in the entire theater. We happened to be standing on the outskirts of the theater where it does not rain but Annie and I decided, what the heck, and jumped on in with all the crazy people. It was nuts and we were soaking wet by the end of it. This is us at the end with the lead actor who was running on the treadmill at the beginning of the show...

After the show we walked to Coffee Shop for dinner where supposedly aspiring models are the servers and bartenders and then for dessert went to Max Brenner’s Chocolate where I got this:

I don't even think I need to tell you how tasty this was.

On New York Day 4 I had to get up early to go home but Robin got up at 5:30am for standby tickets to see Live With Kelly  and ended up on the front row! I watched the show when I got back home and Robin made it on tv multiple times!

It was a whirlwind trip but so worth it. When I got home, Preston had surprised me by replacing part of the backsplash in our kitchen with bead board (which I have been wanting to do since we moved in). He started the project assuming he would finish but realized quickly it was no easy task and decided to start with a section of the kitchen to see if I even liked it. Well I loved it, so now we're working on finishing up the rest of the kitchen. Two walls down, one to go! Pictures of the remodel to come...
